Minerals found in the Earth are divided into following categories:- 1) Ferrous Minerals 2)Non-Ferrous Minerals

2. Non-Ferrous Minerals
The minerals found in the earth’s crust which does not content iron in it are mainly Non-Ferrous Minerals. Most of the minerals found are non-ferrous in nature. Some non ferrous minerals also have radioactive properties like uranium. They are used to produce nuclear energy. Let us discuss the properties that make difference between ferrous and nonferrous minerals.
The major properties of Non Ferrous Minerals are:
- These minerals have no iron in it.
- They have low weight.
- Do not have any magnetic properties.
- The non ferrous minerals are more resistant to corrosion as compared to the ferrous minerals.

Copper – The metal copper has many uses like electrical wiring, plumbing, as well as making coins.
Bauxite (Aluminium Ore) – Aluminium that is produced from the mineral bauxite, used in making Airplanes, Kitchen Utensils, and Cans.
Lead – Used in car batteries, radiation shields, and paints.
Zinc – To protect iron and steel from rusting coating is required. to galvanize (coat) iron and steel to prevent rusting.
Gold & Silver – These minerals are used in jewellery, electronics, and coins.
Uranium, Thorium – These minerals are known as energy producing minerals. Due to their radiation properties, they are used to produce nuclear energy.
